Growing up green
After finding a plant maintenance job as a teenager Debra later recognized her gifts with horticulture, art and interior design. After working for three interior landscape companies, she proceeded to create a livelihood that's been fun, enriching and helps make our world healthier and more beautiful.
At age 21, Debra founded and managed Progressive Plantscapes, Inc. in Washington DC managing a horticultural maintenance staff who serviced 72 corporate and residential accounts per week. In 1990, Amerson sold the business and relocated to the San Francisco Bay area. In 1992, she founded Plantris Productions now known as Deeper Green and has been in business ever since...

Botanical Wonders
In the late 1980's, Debra traveled to the Hawaiian islands on several occasions visiting Hana Maui to study botany with botanist Howard Cooper, the now deceased creator of Hellani Gardens, an amazing 70 acre tropical garden. Cooper was first person to introduce many species of Heliconia and Ginger to Hawaii. Howard mentored Debra and shared his vast knowledge of plants and his unusual propagation techniques, seed collecting methods, composting and koi pond construction and management.
During subsequent visits, Debra and her friend Gail stayed in Howard Cooper's (furnished) Ficus Benjamina tree house... a plant lover's dream come true.

Green Business for a Sustainable Future
Debra Amerson earned a MA Business from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in 1996, participating in one of the nation's first graduate level academic programs in social entrepreneurship and green, environmentally responsible business with an emphasis on new paradigm management practices.
“I worked with Debra on many group projects at CIIS. During those interactions I was challenged, I developed new skills and knowledge, and I learned how to look at the world from many perspectives. Debra was a significant force in making my graduate studies at CIIS powerful and transformational.”--Martha Belcher VP, Sustainable Business Practices, Sungevity, Inc.
After graduation, Amerson collaborated on building first web site for Presideo World College, now known as Presideo School of Management and later participated in program development focus groups for the graduate program.
The MA Business program at CIIS later moved to New College of California and was recently acquired by Dominican University of California in San Rafael. The Green MBA program is an accredited, on site graduate program in the San Francisco Bay Area and graduates receive a Masters of Business Administration in Sustainable Enterprise.
