Green Businesses are helping to save our planet

deeper greeN formerly known as Plantris Productions, is proud to have been Marin County's very first Green Business to demonstrate higher environmental standards of operation. We were re-certified "Green" by Marin County in 2005 and 2009.

Marin County launched the green business program in 2002 and recognized their first group of Green Businesses on April 15, 2002.  There are now over 275 certified green businesses and 3 public agencies certified in Marin County. The program is now operating countywide and is open to all businesses and government agencies.

Why does a landscaping firm's brand showcase the ocean and not plants?

Our purpose is to raise awareness about the hidden dangers of traditional landscaping methods, devised to improve the quality of gardens, yet are very harmful to our health and the environment. Many traditional landscaping products and practices used today contaminate the ground water, poison fish and cause serious damage to our oceans and their inhabitants.

The old landscaping paradigm was to spray, spread and dust plants with toxic chemicals. It was comonplace to prune, mow and dispose of yard waste in plastic bags which would be transported to the dump. Today, Americans generate nearly 31 million tons of food and yard waste a year and leaves, brush, grass clippings and other "organic green waste" clogs landfills, taking up 20-40% of space. A lot of money is spent and energy is used to keep our homes green and manicured.

There are greener, safer, better ways to achieve the same results-- we've been at it long before "sustainability" became THE buzzword. We compost your green waste, create our own fertilizer, use non-toxic plant care methods, continue to make our operations and facility more energy efficient. We can always be greener and we strive to do just that!

Water Conservation
Most large-scale interior and exterior landscapes use an incredible amount of water to keep plants green and healthy. We incorporate GreenScapes activities that reduce your water use and keep your plants healthy and looking beautiful add up to substantial $ savings. deeper greeN utilizes state of the art landscape irrigation applications for both interiors and exteriors. From beautiful rain gardens to berms and swales, our sustainable non-toxic landscaping methods reduce storm water runoff that carry top soils, fertilizers, and pesticides into local rivers and lakes.

We plant native plants whenever possible and support using rain barrels, self-watering pots, storm water holding ponds and cisterns for water catchment to freely catch rain water on rooftops and around buildings. The ancient gardens throughout the world such as Italy, Greece and Babylon all thrived on waters gleaned from simple and effective water catchment systems and cisterns for water storage. Today’s modern landscaping needs can be met in healthy, beautiful ways by incorporating the wisdom and best organic practices of the ancient gardeners, including composting and utilizing water wise water conservation methods. These ideas are old yet new again and will save water and money while reducing runoff, erosion, and non-point source pollution. Win-win-win!

Inside commercial and residential buildings, living plants improve employee morale and retention and strategic planting of vegetation planting around buildings can reduce indoor heating and cooling needs by creating shade in desired areas.

GreenLine Paper Company offers the Green Office Certification to organizations that meet certain environmentally-friendly criteria. The applicant must use energy wisely, recycle, use recycled and energy efficient products, and be environmentally savvy.

deeper greeN continues to administer additional clear, measurable steps to operate an even greener business- both literally and figuratively, hoping to inspire other businesses to join the green revolution to save our planet.
