Debra Amerson along with a great group of folks in a workshop built an Earthen wood burning oven--or Cob Oven at her home that is shaped like the Steelhead Salmon that spawn yearly in our local California creeks. These artistic hand sculpted ovens are made of "cob," a primitive mixture of mud or clay, sand, horse manure, rice straw and pearlite and they are built to retain heat from a wood fire burning inside. Earthen ovens can be used to anything cooked in a conventional oven and makes exceptional pizzas, meat kabobs, roasts, grilled fish, baked bread and slow cooked stews and roasted marshmellows.
